General Introduction
I am a third year master major in automation at Shanghai Jiao
Tong University, P. R. China. With tremendous interest in Industrial Engineering, I am writing to apply for acceptance into your Ph.D. graduate program.
Education background In 1995, I entered the Nanjing University of Science & Technology (NUST) -- widely considered one of the China’s best engineering schools. During the following undergraduate study, my academic records kept distinguished among the whole department. I was granted First Class Prize every semester,In 1999, I got the privilege to enter the graduate program waived of the admission test.
At the period of my graduate study, my overall GPA(3.77/4.0) ranked top 5% in the department. In the second semester, I became teacher assistant that is given to talented and matured students only. This year, I won the Acer Scholarship
as the one and only candidate in my department, which is the ultimate accolade for distinguished students endowed by my
university. Presently, I am preparing my graduation thesis and trying for the honor of Excellent Graduation Thesis.
Research experience and academic activity When a sophomore, I joined
the Association of AI Enthusiast
and began to narrow down my interest for my future research.
With the tool of OpenGL and Matlab, I designed a simulation program for transportation scheduling system. It is now widely used by different research groups in NUST. I assumed and fulfilled a sewage analysis & dispose project for Nanjing sewage treatment plant. This was my first practice to convert a laboratory idea to a commercial product.
In retrospect, I find myself standing on a solid basis in both theory and experience, which has prepared me for the Ph.D. program. My future research interests include: Network Scheduling Problem, Heuristic Algorithm research (especially in GA and Neural network), Supply chain network research, Hybrid system performance analysis with Petri nets and Data Mining.

Hello everyone, I’m so glad to be here to share the story of Cheetah Mobile. To speak frankly, I’m a little nervous because this is my first time to make an English speech without paper. I prepared the speech for a whole night, but it’s too difficult for me.
大家好，很高興能站在這里，與大家分享獵豹移動(dòng)的故事。坦白來(lái)講，我現(xiàn)在有一點(diǎn)緊張。因?yàn)檫@是我第一次在大眾面前進(jìn)行脫稿英文演講。為準(zhǔn)備這場(chǎng)演講，我昨晚整整一宿沒(méi)睡。對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)，確實(shí)太難了。
Just 5 years ago, We founded Cheetah Mobile. At that time Cheetah Mobile was a very small company focused on the PC-side and anti-virus. Our biggest competitor was Qihoo, which listed at the New York Stock Exchange and its valuation surpassed $10 billion. It was a huge competitor for us. And we just focused on the PC side and anti-virus and fought with Qihoo, it was too difficult for us.
五年前，獵豹移動(dòng)成立。當(dāng)時(shí)獵豹移動(dòng)只是專注于PC端殺毒軟件的一家小公司。我們最大的競(jìng)爭(zhēng)對(duì)手是奇虎360。當(dāng)時(shí)它已經(jīng)在紐交所上市，市值超過(guò)100億美金。這對(duì)我們來(lái)說(shuō)無(wú)疑是個(gè)超重量級(jí)對(duì)手。那個(gè)時(shí)候，我們與奇虎在PC端殺毒軟件，苦苦拼爭(zhēng)，處境十分艱難。
5 years ago was my first trip to the US. In Palo Alto on University Ave, I thought: Why do US companies have big dreams? Why do US companies have more innovation than Chinese companies?
也就是五年前，我人生中第一次去了美國(guó)。走在加州Palo Alto的University大道，我不斷思索：為什么美國(guó)公司總有一個(gè)巨大的夢(mèng)想?為什么美國(guó)公司比中國(guó)公司有更多創(chuàng)新?
The dream is the biggest difference between US and Chinese people. Think big, think different was the biggest point to change our thoughts.
我認(rèn)為，夢(mèng)想是美國(guó)人和中國(guó)人最大的差異。敢做更大的夢(mèng)，敢為天下先，將是改變我們中國(guó)人思維最關(guān)鍵的一點(diǎn)。
I thought: Why can’t Chinese companies go outside of China? Why can’t Chinese companies become a global company? Even though we’re a small company, even though we’re not good enough, we can have such a good dream, such a big dream.
我總在思考，為什么中國(guó)公司不能走出國(guó)門?為什么中國(guó)公司不能成為全球化的公司?盡管我們只是一家小公司，盡管我們各個(gè)方面做的都還不夠好，但我們?nèi)匀豢梢該碛羞@樣遠(yuǎn)大的夢(mèng)想。
3 years ago, Cheetah Mobile adjusted our strategy to from the Chinese market to the global market and we changed our product from the PC side to the mobile side. Just after 3 years, we can see now by monthly downloads, Cheetah Mobile was the #2 publisher on Google Play only next to Facebook. We even surpassed Google.
三年前，獵豹移動(dòng)調(diào)整了策略。把目標(biāo)從中國(guó)市場(chǎng)移到了全球市場(chǎng)上。把產(chǎn)品平臺(tái)從PC端改為移動(dòng)端。三年后，我們看到，按月下載量計(jì)算，獵豹移動(dòng)已成為Google Play全球排名第二的應(yīng)用發(fā)行商。僅次于Facebook，甚至超過(guò)Google。
And our monthly active users today on the mobile side is over 500 million. And 70 percent of our users come from outside of China. Just 2 years ago, our monthly active users were 40 million, so we’ve surpassed 10x since then.
今天，我們的移動(dòng)端月活躍用戶數(shù)，已超過(guò)5億，70%來(lái)自海外。就在兩年前，我們的月躍用戶還僅僅只有4000萬(wàn)。到現(xiàn)在，月活躍用戶數(shù)增長(zhǎng)了整整超出10倍以上。
On the growth rate, Cheetah Mobile’s growth speed is surpassing WhatsApp and WeChat in the first two years. So actually, now we are the biggest utility and security developer all over the world on the mobile side. It happened just in three years. But how did it happen?
